The purpose of the Austin Lyric Opera Guild is to encourage community involvement in the mission and development of Austin Lyric Opera through fundraising and other activities.
Throughout its history, the Guild has provided support for Austin Lyric Opera through volunteer activities in fundraising, opera education, audience development and various support services. The Guild maintains a membership of about 400 active and sustaining members who annually contribute over $250,000 to the Austin Lyric Opera budget and give thousands of volunteer hours. It is a labor of love.
Besides affording members a deeper level of involvement in the exciting world of opera and helping Austin Lyric Opera maintain its high level of excellence, the Guild offers members many other benefits:
- Subscription to Libretto, the Guild’s print newsletter, and Guild Insider, the Guild’s electronic newsletter.
- The preseason kickoff event, which introduces the forthcoming season’s operas, cast members, directors and conductors.
- Invitations to special educational events.
- Advance invitations to the prestigious Opera Ball and Auction.
- Invitation to the annual awards dinner
- Invitations to private parties exclusively for Guild members.
Events providing educational opportunities and social interaction with other opera lovers are available almost every month of the season! The Guild holds an annual membership drive every spring to renew Guild memberships and develop new members. Membership meetings provide the opportunity to meet fellow members, learn about activities and projects, and select primary areas of interest in which to volunteer. The season is capped off with a Spring Guild Membership Awards Party, where volunteers are recognized for their efforts and accomplishments.
